This adaptation in charcoal from a monochrome photo was even tougher than I expected.(Just like my relationship with him was.) It was a first time to try a likeness of him, ever, so maybe another future effort will satisfy me more.

Carol I love the texture in this sketch. Don’t be too hard on yourself about capturing your father. We all have such complex memories of loved ones, no matter what they are, it’s almost impossible to meet our own internal ‘picture ‘ of them.
You are so right about the impossibility, Leonie! I am glad you enjoy the texture: I am not confident with charcoal yet –and not on Bristol board for sure. But it fit the look of the original (deteriorating) photo well. Thank you, Carol
