‘Bob,’ pastel sketch

Long after the fact, I celebrate this sale. Bob sat for me in my own studio, the first portrait I tried without the official classroom atmosphere. Nerve-wracking! It shows I had mastered the pastel portrait techniques of William Maughan, my chief goal at the time. Already I felt free to exaggerate, the asymmetry in the eyes. Much later Bob chose to buy it. That’s a kind of Thanksgiving story.
