Watching nature shows about primates' lives and habits had a strange effect on me. I wanted to explore the human face in my art. Perhaps seeing us--at one level--as animals among others made portrait painting more accessible!

Cats are natural models, beautiful, relaxed. They don’t stay in position (that’s an illusion) so photos are necessary. But what lines! What textures!
