Experimental & unfinished is this charcoal sketch of our new model yesterday. His costume represents the formal dress of a man from one of the eastern, rural Polish tribal groups: embroidered dark-green satin coat and hat, with pale-gray mink border.

‘Tribesman’ by Carol Lois Haywood; charcoal on ivory drawing paper; size 16 X 20″.

I cut loose and rough, exploring charcoal’s potential on this paper–and with his craggy features. (I hope something more finished will appear here for you to see next week.)
