‘Rob in Profile’ by Carol Lois Haywood; pastel on 20 X 25″ deep-blue drawing paper.

Numerous people once regulars in my life are now distant memories. Rob is one.

Typically he recently found his minimum wage job would no longer keep a roof over his head. (This situation is epidemic in Silicon Valley!)

Where he went, I don’t even know. So I am glad to have created this portrait as a token–even though we were not really close.

Maybe now you can see why the surface includes so much blue! His head and shoulders are dissolving into blue shadow.

Bonus: A 9 X 12″ charcoal sketch of his profile from a photo that I used to begin my portrait process.
