Graphite drawing from visit to see Rodin sculpture display.

Artist’s note: “Bust of Madam Luisa Maria Vicuna, A Rodin 1887”

Representations of women especially in modern art do speak to me. This one moved me to make the commitment of limited time to doing just that, probably 10 – 15 years ago. (Grateful to Cantor Arts Center for making a sketching opportunity like this possible.) Gone are those days of course!

Who could imagine how that might come about?

Who was she? A quick search today reveals she was a Chilean feminist writer, journalist, and socialite. The bust is now to be seen at the Musee d’orsay in Paris, France.

BTW, Cantor Arts Center is on the campus of Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, USA.
