‘Tropica’ by Carol Lois Haywood; pastel on 10 X 12″ beige drawing paper, based on the subject’s promo model photos online.

About choosing a support for pastel, pastel pencil most often for me: experiment and observe online the impact of the color and value of the support (paper or  board or?). I try to identify the color of the drawing paper I used for this series because it has a major impact on the mood and texture of an artwork, especially when seen online.

My color of support was limited in this series by the situation. But light-value supports offer stronger contrasts and flatter fair skin tones. Dark supports dull the contrast.

The paradox  is that this change occurs more seen online. And I find it hard to correct for, in adjusting the images before posting.
